26 Feb 2008: Indigo prepares for major Microsoft launch

Northeast businesses need professional advice on new server software, so talk to us about adopting it, says Indigo’s Dave Senior

Indigo, the Aberdeen-based information technology (IT) specialist company set up in 2005, is preparing to give advice to customers and local businesses in the northeast of Scotland when Microsoft launches its latest server product to the world’s business community on February 27. Indigo is an accredited Microsoft partner and as such provides hardware and software in support of Microsoft products and systems.

Indigo’s Dave Senior, who set up Indigo with Sean Thomson three years ago, recognises that these advances are great news, but is willing to advise any business that they need not rush into early adoption.

‘This new suite of Windows server software is one of the biggest launches Microsoft has ever done,’ he says. ‘We know that  Microsoft will roll out a marketing blitz around the world, spending more than $150 million over the next year to market Windows Server 2008 and hosting more than 200 launch events around the world.

‘The main launch event in Los Angeles on February 29 is expected to attract more than 7000 people. Microsoft is focusing its marketing on security, web development and hosting, branch office solutions, and Windows Server's new virtualisation capabilities. These are real benefits and we are waiting to see all the detail of what is being launched next week. It’s a big step for Microsoft.’

Indigo knows that new products like this are great news for business users and like Windows Vista a couple of years ago, will be around for a while, so businesses need not be in a rush to adopt them first. Indigo is advising businesses considering the new server software to speak to qualified professionals who can advise on how and when they might consider adopting the new system.

Dave Senior says, ‘We advise businesses to properly evaluate the benefits to be had from the new server software and talk to us if you are wondering if this product is for you right now.’

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 is being promoted as the most advanced Windows Server operating system yet, designed to power the next-generation of networks, applications, and web services. New web tools, virtualisation technologies, security enhancements and management utilities are expected to help save time, reduce costs, and provide a solid foundation for companies’ information technology infrastructure.
