21 January 2008: Indigo supports Golfscape as it tees off

 Efficient business system underpins successful new golf venture in the centre of Aberdeen

Indigo, the Aberdeen-based information technology (IT) specialist company set up in 2005, has completed a major IT and telephony project that underpins the business functions for novel golf centre, Golfscape. Golfscape is a £500,000 facility based in Aberdeen’s Union Street, and it offers north-east golfers the chance to take on virtual golf courses like Pebble Beach, St Andrews and the Belfry.

Founders Sean Thomson and Dave Senior, who set up Indigo together, worked with Alex Warnock, director of Golfscape to plan and implement the IT system and integrated telephony that gives vital support to the innovative new golf centre.

‘Customers at Golfscape enjoy centre-wide wi-fi, and we have equipped the superb conference facility with a voice over the internet capability so that conference calls can be made by customers in the centre to anywhere in the world,’ says Sean Thomson of Indigo. ‘We have installed a professional server-based system and state of the art telephony for the staff running the business.  This means the business runs smoothly while the golfers at Golfscape play against other golfers elsewhere in the world – and at the same time conference room users communicate with business colleagues around the world. We were delighted to be able to work in this exciting new venture.’

Alex Warnock of Golfscape said, ‘Our new centre includes a function suite and boardroom equipped with wi-fi, as well as the golf simulator experience for customers, so our business network is absolutely critical to the smooth running of the centre. We were impressed with Indigo’s commitment to getting the work done in time for our recent opening, and the whole system is linked to the simulators so we are able to keep track of our operations on an ongoing basis.

Local companies have been booking the Golfscape centre for ‘town hall’ type meetings where employees can see presentations from their management in a setting that allows for some fun, too.

 ‘We are finding there is demand from companies who want to take over the whole centre for their corporate event,’ says Alex Warnock, ‘as it’s such a novel experience and in a  sporting context too. There is great interest in playing stunning and unusual golf courses without thinking about the weather, or flying half way round the world.’
