Hirsute Hands Prove Detrimental To Flying Fingers
IT Firm Reveals Study To Show Shaving Hands Delivers Greater Productivity
Aero and hydrodynamics play an important part in sports and one Aberdeen business is taking inspiration from the likes of Michael Phelps and Lance Armstrong to improve its directors’ productivity by increasing typing speeds. Indigo Technologies has undertaken internal trials to demonstrate that men who shave the back of their hands gain benefits in productivity and typing speed associated with high calibre athletes. Swimmers are known to shave their bodies and Olympian Michael Phelps donned a ‘space age’ swim suit at the Beijing Olympics in order to be more hydrodynamic, improve his performance and win eight golds. Wind tunnel studies have been carried out to determine which positions are most aerodynamic for cyclists and the majority of professional cyclists shave their legs to remove unnecessary aerodynamic drag.
Sean Thomson, director of Indigo Technologies, explains, “It’s well known that cyclists and swimmers shave in order to increase their efficiency so when one of our employees suggested shaving the backs of our hands to become more aerodynamic, reduce drag and therefore increase typing speeds it made sense to implement it for a trial period. We reckon that our key stroke productivity has increased by around 10% as a result. The initial trial of this new initiative was carried out at director level and if it proves as successful as we expect it will be rolled out across the board. “We’re committed to providing our clients with the highest possible level of service. This includes ensuring all our skills, including typing, are as efficient as possible.”
“Disposable razors, shaving gel and hand cream will be provided at the offices and we will, of course, have a qualified first aider on standby to deal with any nicks or cuts as once hairy hands become smooth and swift.”
