Leading North-East IT and software technology firm, Indigo Technologies are celebrating their 10th anniversary on the 28th January. Headquartered in Aberdeen, the past 10 years has seen the company demonstrate incredibly impressive growth. Launched in 2005 from a three desk serviced office in Regent Quay, to their four-storey building on Rubislaw Terrace, the specialist firm now boast 10 employees, 4 directors, over 120 clients, the award for Employer of the Year 2014 at the Grampian Awards for Business Excellence, an impressive 2014 turnover of £1.1 million and are currently on target for the £1.3million turnover forecasted for 2015.
Dave Senior, Managin Director, Indigo Technologies
Managing Director, Dave Senior, set up Indigo Technologies after realising that IT firms offering good reliable service appeared to be missing in Aberdeen. Ten years on Indigo certainly ticks the box for good service, having an exceptional client retention rate of 95% and winning the Excellence in Customer Service Award in both 2010 and 2013 at the Northern Star Business Awards. The award winning company have also been finalists in the Commitment to People Development Award at the Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce Northern Star Business Awards in both 2013 and 2014, and their Sales Director, Aileen Scott, won the coveted Rising Star Award in 2012.
Reflecting on Indigo’s ten years, Managing Director, Dave Senior commented, “Good service has always been at the heart of what we do, so much so, our very first paying client, Alexander Duncan, continues to be loyal to Indigo to this day. Yet the change in the business and the technology industry throughout these ten years has been vast. 2005, the year in which Indigo was born, was the same year in which Youtube was founded and Google was identified as the ‘busiest inventor of 2005’. We may not have had such growth as these two titans but our own is still impressive.”
Since their launch, Indigo has continued to offer the core services of IT Support and virtualisation, offering technology support to clients with their day to day computing woes and delivering IT solutions to a range of small organisations as well as global oil and gas giants. As the company has grown and the IT industry advanced, the firm has branched out into the telecoms and networking sectors and now supplies state of the art satellite broadband, cloud computing systems and WIFI solutions. To date, they are the only licensing specialist, and one of two software asset management specialists in Aberdeen, all of which have become vital parts of the modern technology industry in the last ten years.
The company has also been involved in a variety of globally diverse and challenging projects. In 2008 they undertook the tricky project of installing phone and internet access for a group of New Zealand sheep farmers into a remote Scottish castle in Corrour. At the time, the project was extremely expensive and difficult to complete with phone lines run by microwave links yet, six years on, due to the technological changes in the digital world it now costs a fraction of the price for Indigo to supply high speed phone and internet access.
Dave noted, “The change in the IT sector since 2005 is immense. Then, the desktop computer was the main point of call, with large CRT monitors and the constant necessity to update software. Who would have foreseen the overwhelming use of impossibly thin and lightweight laptops, tablets, smart phones and cloud computing that we see today? It has definitely kept us at Indigo on our toes.”
The 28th of January will be a day of celebration and acknowledgement of Indigo Technologies’ success and growth over the past ten years for their directors, employees and clients. Dave commented, “When the business started, we didn’t pay ourselves for a year and choosing our first employee was a tough decision. We have proven over this decade that we provide excellent and reliable service whilst adjusting and moving with the changes the IT and technology sectors have made during this time and are looking forward to embracing the changes the next ten years will bring.”
